Our history

Refresco blends a history of strong traditions and growth. We have complemented our manufacturing footprint by acquiring local bottling companies and integrating them into one corporate structure, thereby offering customers access to more markets, products and technologies. Today our manufacturing footprint is the broadest in Europe and with the recent acquisition of Cott’s bottling activities in North America we can now offer our services on both key markets.


Menken Beverages (the predecessor of Refresco), was founded with a management buyout of Menken Drinks and Refrescos de Sur Europa S.A. from a major Dutch dairy group.


Menken Beverages acquired Krings Fruchtsaft in Germany gaining access to the German discount retail channel.

Refresco Holding is formed on March 30 2000 with production sites in the Netherlands, Spain and Germany.


Gerber Foods Manufacturing, that will merger with Refresco in 2013, acquired EMIG becoming the largest supplier of juices and juice drinks in Europe – supplying private label and branded products.


Refresco acquired Hardthof Fruchtsaft in Germany and Délifruits in France. The acquisition of Delifruits delivered access to aseptic PET production capacity and expertise.


Refresco acquired Interfruit Vital in Spain, reinforcing Refresco’s position in Spain and Portugal as well as in the discount channel. Refresco Holding purchased by private equity house 3i.


Refresco acquired Vip-Juicemaker in Finland to expand manufacturing capability in the Nordics.


3i sells its investment in Refresco to an Icelandic investor consortium.


Refresco acquired Kentpol in Poland, Histogram in the UK and Sun Beverage Company (SBC) with operations in the Benelux and France. Acquisition of Nuits St George in France strengthened customer service in the French market.


Refresco acquired Schiffers Food consolidating the company’s position in the Benelux private label soft drinks and fruit juices market.


Refresco acquired Soft Drinks International (SDI), an important step in completing its product portfolio in the German market.


Refresco entered the Italian market with the acquisition of Spumador followed by an add on investment in Sulmona.


Refresco acquired Taja, a Polish private label manufacturer of CSDs and water.


Refresco and Gerber Emig merged forming the leading European bottler of soft drinks and fruit juices for retailers and A-brands.


On March 27, 2015 Refresco announced successful launch of the company on the Euronext stock exchange in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.


Refresco took first step into North America creating second growth platform in the largest soft drinks market globally. In the Netherlands, co-packer and canning expert DIS joined Refresco.


Refresco acquires Cott's bottling activities creating the world's largest independent bottler with leadership positions across Europe and North America.
